Check debt collection letters

If you are unable to pay your bills, your creditors often call in debt collection agencies. They have the task of collecting the money from you. According to the law, debtors are generally obliged to pay the additional costs and interest incurred as a result.

But what costs and how much are debt collection companies actually allowed to charge?

This is not easy to answer, as there are hardly any detailed answers to be found in the relevant laws. However, there is a lot of case law in the form of court judgements, which are constantly being adapted.

The consumer advice centre has developed the free debt collection check as a support service. You will find out whether you have to pay at all and whether the amount of the costs is justified. Among other things, individual facts and the costs charged to you are queried.
